CMRA Names Montecalvo Disposal Facility of the Year

CMRA Past President Jonathan Hixon recently presented Frank Montecalvo with the coveted “C&D Recycling Facility of the Year” to this year’s sole award recipient, Montecalvo Disposal Services, Inc. (MDS). Frank is the president of MDS, a material recovery facility/transfer station operating at the Bayshore Recycling Eco-Complex in Keasbey, N.J.

Hixon commended Montecalvo’s 52-acre “model recycling center.” A state-of-the-art C&D processing system designed by Frank Montecalvo, and built to his specifications by Erin Systems/Premier Tech, has proved to be the crown jewel to the facility. The process also uses a CBI Grinder and several Caterpillar loaders to process a portion of the 1,000 tons per day of C&D debris allotted to the facility by Middlesex County and the NJ State Department of Environmental Protection. This award recognizes Montecalvo for its innovation in the industry. MDS boasts a 75% recycling and recovery rate that has been acknowledged by a variety of environmentalists for its efforts.

MDS operates a fully licensed NJDEP permitted facility and offers full-service transportation using a fleet of tandems, tri-axles, and 10, 20 and 30 cu. yard roll-off containers with pickup and delivery services available. The transfer station accepts Type 13 (Bulky Waste), 13C (Construction and Demolition debris) and Type-27 (Dry Industrial Waste). Usage of the recycling services offered by MDS qualifies for LEED points under the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

The Bayshore site is also home to the CMRA’s award-winning operation Bayshore Recycling Corp.’s 2007 Concrete & Asphalt Facility of the Year.

One of the company’s officers also received special honors. Valerie Montecalvo was named one of New Jersey’s 2011 Best 50 Women in Business. Valerie is the president and founder of Bayshore Recycling Corp. The award program, produced by NJBIZ, New Jersey’s premiere business news publication, was sponsored by Wells Fargo, WithumSmith+Brown, PC and Wolff & Samson PC.

The Best 50 Women in Business awards program honors New Jersey’s most dynamic women in business who have been making headlines in their field. To qualify, a nominee had to meet selection criteria that included living or working in New Jersey and holding significant authority for decision making in a for-profit company. An independent panel of judges selected the top 50 winners based on their dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, and community involvement and advocacy for women.

Montecalvo was also honored at The Women of Distinction event, part of the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey program that inspires girls of all ages, particularly girls in grades 8-12, to become tomorrow’s leaders. The program generates revenue which provides critically needed funds that support leadership development opportunities and programs for more than 24,000 girls and 11,000 adult volunteers in 10 New Jersey counties. Those chosen as Women of Distinction are role models and mentors to tomorrow’s generation of women leaders.
