Two Named as Interim Directors at EPA Solid Waste Office

Suzanne Rudzinski and Margaret Guerriero will serve the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s OSWER as acting director and acting deputy director, respectively, of the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery. This is the office that deals with solid waste issues.
The move comes because of the recent retirements of long time director Matt Hale, and the retirement of Maria Vickers, the number two person in the department. They are considered interim leaders while the successors to Hale and Vickers are sought.

Rudzinski is moving over from the Office of Water, where she has been the deputy director of the Office of Science and Technology. Before that, she was director of the Air Office’s Transportation and Regional Programs Division. Rudzinski has also served in the Energy Department, the Office of Toxic Substances, and in OSWER in the Office of Solid Waste, now ORCR. Her federal service totals more than 36 years.

Guerriero has moved from EPA Region 5, where she is director of the Land and Chemicals Division, managing the region’s waste, toxics, pollution prevention, pesticides, tanks and Toxics Release Inventory programs. Previously, she was associate director of the Superfund Division, managing the region’s brownfields, Superfund remedial, removal and emergency response work. She has more than 25 years of federal service.
