Republic Acquires Green Tech

Republic Services, Inc. has expanded its services through the acquisition of Green Tech Transfer & Recycling, a South Bend, Ind.-based full service transfer station and recycling facility.

“When we look at acquisitions and purchases, our goal is expand the service offerings we have for our customers and give them more options,” said Bob Havenga, general manager, Republic. “Green Tech provided us with resources that would help us supply the high level of service our customers have come to expect.”

Green Tech had established itself as the only comprehensive large scale recycling facility in Northern Indiana. It offers extensive construction and demolition, along with other industrial recycling services at its recycling facility and transfer station.

Currently, Green Tech is recycling concrete, fiber, plastics, wood waste, ferrous/non-ferrous metals and other materials, related to the manufacturing, RV and construction industry. Concrete along with wood and other materials are processed onsite and sold to various reuse markets.

“Republic shares our vision for the environment,” said Mike Morris, COO, Green Tech, and fourth generation recycler. “It was a perfect fit to sell to them. Republic wanted to expand into services that we were already providing in the area.”

Green Tech opened on Earth Day 2008 and sits on 33-acres that once housed  Studebaker car manufacturing facilities. In 2008, Green Tech won the Indiana Governors Environmental Award for Excellence.

Republic also purchased Green Tech’s hauling company, Industrial Disposal & Recycling.
