First Solar Compactor Used in Southern Nevada

Republic Services announced the installation of the first solar-powered waste compactor used in Southern Nevada on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus. Republic Services and UNLV are working together to expand the culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship on campus and within the student body. The new compactor offers an initial energy savings of at least 40%. This number will increase depending on the average annual number of sunny days in a given area of the country. In Southern Nevada, the compactor can operate on solar more than 85% of the time.

In addition to the environmentally friendly Green Built solar compactor from Marathon Equipment Co., UNLV plans to add solar recycling compactors in the near future as part of the campus initiative to find sustainable alternatives for all facilities and university sports venues.
